The Zone of Interest

Release date: April 5
Where: Max

Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar-winning film, The Zone of Interest, is making its streaming debut this month on Max. The Holocaust film is unique for its use of sound to convey the horrors of the period and posits the question—how much suffering can humans look past? The film won the Oscars for Best International Feature and Best Sound and stars Sandra Hüller, Christian Friedel, and Ralph Herforth.

The Greatest Hits

Release date: April 12
Where: Hulu

Are time travel movies so done? The Greatest Hits attempts a fresh take by giving the genre a musical twist. The basic premise is that when Harriet, played by Lucy Boynton, hears songs she and her now-dead boyfriend (David Corenswet) used to listen to, she gets sent back in time. It’s different, but sadly, early reviews point to this being more of the same.

Bluey: The Sign

Release date: April 14
Where: Disney Plus

The 49th episode of Bluey Season 3 is being made into a 28-minute special. This is the longest episode ever of the hit show and will be preceded by a new regular-sized episode the week before titled Ghostbasket.

Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver

Release date: April 19
Where: Netflix

Rebel Moon Part 1 was a thunderous dud. Despite the dreadful reception, Netflix is releasing Rebel Moon Part 2 this month, completing the story of this original but extremely derivative space opera.

Vanderpump Villa

Can’t get enough of Vanderpump Rules? Get ready for more drama with Vanderpump Villa! Hulu’s calling it a “docu-drama,” but it looks like reality TV, smells like reality TV, and is edited like reality TV. The new reality show follows Lisa Vanderpump’s staff as they work, live, and play at the French estate Chateau Rosabelle. 

Loot

Release date: April 3
Where: Apple TV Plus

Apple TV Plus’s excellent comedy series, Loot, is finally back for its second season. The series is about a newly single woman now worth billions who is looking to be more involved with her charitable foundation. It stars Maya Rudolph, Mj Rodriguez, Joel Kim Booster, Nat Faxon, and Ron Funches.

Ripley

Release date: April 4
Where: Netflix

Based on the Tom Ripley novels by Patricia Highsmith, this eight-episode series sees Andrew Scott as the titular con man who, initially on an assignment to locate a wealthy man’s son, falls for the lifestyle of the upper class. Interestingly, the series is shot in black and white; how stylish! Dakota Fanning, John Malkovich, and Johnny Flynn also star.

Star Trek: Discovery

Release date: April 4
Where: Paramount Plus

Star Trek: Discovery was one of Paramount Plus’s biggest calling cards at launch, and now, it’s coming to an end. The series follows Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the USS Discovery as they explore new worlds. The final season will see the team travel across the galaxy to find an ancient power that has been hidden for centuries.

Alex Rider

Release date: April 5
Where: Amazon Freevee

Based on the young adult novels of the same name, this series follows a teenager who gets recruited by MI6 following the death of his uncle. All eight episodes stream today and for free on Amazon Freevee.

Fallout

Release date: April 11
Where: Prime Video

Video game adaptations are having a moment right now, and the latest to join the fray is Fallout. The series hails from the team behind HBO’s Westworld, Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan (who is acclaimed director Christopher Nolan’s brother). It is said to be an original story but borrows the visual style from the games. This might be quite the cerebral series if Westworld is anything to go by. Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, and Ella Purnell lead the series. All eight episodes stream today.

Lovers and Liars

Release date: April 11
Where: CW

Originally called FGirl Island, the female-centric spinoff of FBoy Island has been given a different name—Lovers and Liars. The series finally makes its debut this month. Aside from the name change, the format seems exactly the same. Three men head to an island where they must determine which of the 24 women are there for love or cash.

Dora

Release date: April 12
Where: Paramount Plus

Need something for your kids to watch? Paramount Plus drops a rebooted Dora series. Featuring new CG designs, join Dora, Boots, and all their friends as they go on adventures in the rainforest.

The Sympathizer

Release date: April 14
Where: Max

Based on the Pulitzer-winning, darkly comedic war novel of the same name by Viet Thanh Nguyen, this seven-part miniseries from A24 comes from Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Decision to Leave) and Don McKellar and stars Robert Downey Jr. The series follows a communist spy known as the “The Captain,” played by Hoa Xuande, in the final days of the Vietnam War and his subsequent exile in the U.S., where he finds work in Hollywood.

Under the Bridge

Where: Hulu

Fresh off her Oscar nomination, Lily Gladstone heads an eight-episode series about a group of teenagers accused of murdering a fellow teen. The series is adapted from Rebecca Godfrey’s novel of the same name.

Conan O’Brien Must Go

Release date: April 18

Talk show host turned podcaster Conan O’Brien makes his return to the small screen with a brand new streaming series, Conan O’Brien Must Go. He’ll travel to Norway, Thailand, Argentina, and Ireland to meet with the fans he met on his podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Fan.

Ugliest House in America

Imagine seeing your house on this show, oof. The title says it all: the show is in search of the ugliest house in America. And it’s a competition! Four homes from four regions get shortlisted for the title, and the winning home gets awards with a 150,000 USD renovation with designer Alison Victoria.

Knuckles

Where: Paramount Plus

Knuckles made his cinematic debut in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and now is the star of his very own limited series! Set between Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3, the action-comedy will see Knuckles train Wade, played by Adam Pally, the ways of the Echidna warrior. Just like in the movies, Idris Elba voices Knuckles.

The Veil

Release date: April 30
Where: Hulu

This six-episode limited series sees Elisabeth Moss as an MI6 spy and is said to be a “deadly game of truth and lies.” Sounds like it’ll be a twisty and fun one! The series hails from Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders fame.

MLB: Regular season

Most MLB fans will wake up on April 1 with their teams still owning hopes of a deep playoff run, top prospects breaking out, and avoiding the injuries that can derail a season. Every day of April features baseball action, from Shohei Ohtani and the reloaded Dodgers to Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, and an Orioles team looking to build off last year’s breakout. Who else is ready to hit the diamond?

NBA Playoffs

Will presumptive NBA MVP winner Nikola Jokić and the Nuggets repeat as NBA champions? They should certainly be the favorites to win an inconsistent Western Conference, although one can never truly rule out Stephen Curry’s Warriors or LeBron James’ Lakers. Meanwhile, it looks like any legitimate Eastern Conference contenders will need to go through Jayson Tatum and the Celtics first.

UEFA Champions League

The Champions League returns as it progresses to the quarterfinals with some juicy matchups, including Real Madrid vs. Manchester City and Arsenal vs. Bayern Munich on April 9. On the other side of the bracket, French champs PSG take on Spanish Barcelona on April 10, while Atlético Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund pits two fiery managers against each other in Diego Simeone and Edin Terzić. 

FA Cup

The magic of England’s oldest cup competition pits the Championship’s Coventry City against the mighty Manchester United, while Premier League giants Manchester City vs. Chelsea are drawn in the other semifinal. Who will secure a place in the final at Wembley?
